Now Christie, like Cohen, is a former Trump associate trying to take the former president down. Cohen is rare in the universe of Trump associates since he both turned on Trump and went to prison. Many of the other Trump aides and associates who faced jail eventually got pardons or clemency and still support the former president. Trump’s pardon helped Bannon avoid prosecution in the border wall scheme, but Bannon may yet go to prison. Trump issued the Flynn pardon shortly after losing the 2020 presidential election.

Dean Obeidallah CNNIt’s not the first time Trump has kicked off an event by playing this song that celebrates the January 6, 2021, attackers. But that wasn’t even the most offensive thing Trump did at Saturday’s private luncheon for donors, which was held at his Mar-a-Lago club. It was Trump, after all, who has said that he would be a dictator on “day one” of his administration. And the fact is, there is one major party presidential candidate who repeatedly has invoked Nazi language — and it’s not Biden. In December, Trump caused a firestorm when he parroted language used by Hitler by describing migrants as “poisoning the blood” of the United States.

I don’t change on that,” Mr. Trump said, according to The Journal Sentinel. Mr. Trump now faces dozens of felony charges in connection with those events. Months before any voting has taken place, Mr. Trump has regularly made the baseless claim that Democrats are likely to cheat to win. CNN —Donald Trump used his day off from a criminal trial related to a past election to cast a dark, familiar shadow over the next one. Trump cut an unrecognizable figure from the grim ex-president who bleats a daily dirge of complaints about his hush money trial outside Judge Juan Merchan’s court. On specific issues, surveys show Trump leading Biden on most issues including the economy, immigration, and the Israel-Hamas war. “A chilling glimpse into Trump’s second term plansSix months before the election, Trump’s searing campaign rhetoric is becoming less an exercise in performative demagoguery than a blueprint for a potential second term. Trump wouldn't dismiss the possibility of political violence this election season if he loses. He said in an interview with Time: "It always depends on the fairness of an election." AdvertisementFormer President Donald Trump said in a new interview that he's not ruling out the possibility of election-related violence if he loses to President Joe Biden in November. When first pressed about the prospect of "political violence" over the upcoming presidential election, Trump said he didn't think it would play out. A poll last year from the US Association of Former Members of Congress and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, found that a whopping 84% of ex-members of Congress were worried about election-related violence in 2024.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump wouldn’t dismiss the potential for political violence from his supporters if he isn’t elected in November, suggesting it would depend on the outcome of the presidential race. “I don’t think we’re going to have that,” the presumptive GOP nominee told Time magazine. It always depends on the fairness of an election.”The remarks came in a wide-ranging interview with the magazine that published Tuesday. But pressed by the magazine in a later phone interview, Trump was less definitive about the future. Throughout his political career, Trump has regularly refused to accept the results of an election or commit to a conceding defeat.

Self-pardoning wasn't on the table at Thursday's Supreme Court hearing. The Supreme Court has never ruled on whether such a move would be permissible. The purpose of the hearing was for the Supreme Court to hear arguments over whether Trump should be immune from criminal prosecution for his conduct as president. He told Michael Dreeben, the lawyer representing Smith's team, that the question might be crucial as the Supreme Court deliberates the scope of presidential immunity. In order to obtain a pardon, he would have to be convicted and serve at least five years of a sentence.

It follows comments from Mr. Kennedy this week suggesting that President Biden posed a greater threat to American democracy than Mr. Trump. The campaign described Mr. Assange as a “political prisoner” and asked supporters to sign a petition urging the United States to drop the charges against him. Particular attention has been paid to those rioters who have been held at the local jail in Washington. Mr. Trump has made this revisionist view of the events of Jan. 6 central to his campaign. Mr. Trump, who once sided with Mr. Assange over the conclusions of America’s intelligence services, had considered pardoning both Mr. Assange and Mr. Snowden — who fled into exile in Russia more than a decade ago — during his term in office.

As the country's founder and first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, once declared, "America's greatest gift to Israel was Al Schwimmer." Joining the Haganah, Schwimmer discovered, wasn't as easy as just strolling through the door. "He felt he had to do his part in creating a Jewish state, so this could never happen again," Schwimmer recalled. It’s Biden’s campaign aides who have been surprised how much that’s true. A running mate litmus testBiden aides say January 6 and the footage from it will be a central feature of their advertising campaigns, the convention and beyond. Trump, for his part, keeps talking about it and his aides aren’t really trying to stop him. About 56 percent of independent voters continue to believe Trump was largely responsible for it, virtually unchanged during that stretch. But Biden aides say that’s a big part of why the images and memories of January 6 itself are so important.

Orban has long posed as a globetrotting defender of Christian values and an enemy of liberalism. But Orban’s critics say his carefully constructed image is a thin guise for a plutocratic mode of governance designed to enrich a small group of oligarchs. Since the scandal was revealed last weekend by Hungarian news site 444.hu, “Orban has not made an appearance or said anything. Hungarian President Katalin Novak resigned on Saturday after coming under mounting pressure for pardoning a man convicted of helping to cover up sexual abuse in a children's home. Novak, a close ally of conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orban, resigned a week after her presidential pardon was first reported by local news site 444.hu. The revelation caused a public uproar and demands from the opposition for her and former Justice Minister Judit Varga to quit. Varga, who has been a rising star in Orban's ruling Fidesz party, resigned as a lawmaker on Saturday. This has been one of several issues over which Orban has clashed with the European Commission.

CNN —Most Americans want to see a verdict on the federal charges former President Donald Trump faces related to election subversion in 2020 before this year’s presidential election, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. About half of Americans, 48%, say it’s essential that a verdict is reached before the 2024 presidential election, and another 16% that they’d prefer to see one. Trump currently faces four separate criminal indictments, including federal charges related to his alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Among those who see a pre-election verdict in the federal Trump election subversion case as essential, just 35% express trust in the Supreme Court on election-related cases. About half (48%) of Americans say they’d favor Trump attempting a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants and 39% that they’d favor repealing and replacing the ACA.
